Katsuo-ji

Katsuo-ji is famous as the “temple of winning luck” and “temple of winning dharma.

The belief in good fortune spread as champions of the era, including the Genji, Ashikaga, and Toyotomi clans, prayed for victory in battle at Katsuo-ji Temple.

Even today, there is no end to the number of visitors who come to the temple to pray for “victory luck” in various situations such as examinations, business, employment, and sports, and the temple’s power of prayer can be seen from the large number of dharma dolls dedicated on the temple grounds.

The temple is also famous for its “Kacho Dharma” (winning dharma), which is a symbol of success in winning a victory in a competition.
The rule of the Dharma is to write an eyeball in the left eye and then, if the wish is fulfilled, to write an eyeball in the right eye.
Dharmas with various eyeballs written on them are unique and somewhat cute.

Every year in early November, Katsuo-ji Temple and the surrounding mountains are in full foliage season. The temple grounds, which are spread out in front of you after passing through the gate, are colored red and yellow, and look like a painting.

The red maple leaves are beautifully enhanced by the deep green of the mountains behind them. The beauty of nature woven into the vast temple grounds is simply breathtaking!

Please be sure to check the latest information before visiting the temple.
