A must-go winter festival when you visit Hokkaido
Many people think of Hokkaido in winter as a snow festival in Odori park. But the Hyoto Festival at Lake Shikotsu is also very popular and will be held from January 28 (Sat) to February 23 (Thu), 2023 this year.
Lake Shikotsu in Chitose City is a popular driving spot. Lake Shikotsu has been the best water quality lake in Japan for 11 consecutive years since 2007. The water of Lake Shikotsu is frozen and lined with ice sculptures of various sizes, making it one of Hokkaido’s most popular winter festivals. During the day, the lake shines in a natural blue color called “Lake Shikotsu Blue,” and at night it is illuminated to create a fantastic world.
